EAP release notes: number formats and block tagging

Written by Vicosight | Oct 27, 2026, 8:39:41 AM

Released on 7 April 2026.

This release brings two major additions to tagging: numeric tags now understand how your numbers are formatted and whether they should be reported as negative, and you can tag an entire section of your report in one action with block tagging. In the InDesign & InCopy extension, linked Vicosight content is now much easier to manage, with unlinking, navigation and update indicators that refresh live. We've also fixed a range of issues across tagging, Review notifications and the extension panel.

What's new

Formatted numbers and signs in numeric tagging

Financial statements present numbers for human readers, with thousands separators, comma or dot decimals and negative amounts shown in brackets. Until now, a numeric tag recorded the value, unit, scale and decimals, but not how the number was written or whether it should be reported as negative. We're pleased to introduce number format and sign handling for numeric tags, so the value that ends up in your filing matches what your report means, not just what it shows. You can also check the reported value directly in the inspector before you move on.

How it works

  • Automatic format detection: when you tag a number, Vicosight reads how it's written, such as a comma or dot decimal separator and apostrophe or space thousands separators, and assigns the matching number format. If the format can't be detected, the project default is used.
  • Clean selections: the tag covers the number itself. Minus signs, brackets and symbols in your selection stay outside the tag.
  • Sign control: the inspector shows whether the concept has a debit, credit or no balance, and lets you choose whether the value is reported as positive or negative. Brackets or a minus sign in the layout don't make a reported value negative on their own.
  • Reported value preview: the inspector shows the value as it will be reported, with format, scale and sign applied, together with its currency. The preview updates as soon as you change any of these.
  • Project defaults: in the Vicosight project settings, you can set a Default monetary format and a Default TRR namespace for new numeric tags.

For context, Inline XBRL keeps a number's presentation separate from its reported value. The Transformation Rules Registry published by XBRL International defines how formatted numbers are converted into reported values, and a negative value is expressed with the sign attribute rather than inferred from brackets or a minus sign. Vicosight supports both TRR 5 and TRR 6.

Block tagging from the document outline

Tagging long narrative disclosures, such as notes or accounting policies, by selecting text across several pages is slow, and the selection is easily broken when the content changes. With block tagging, you can now tag an entire section of your report in one action, straight from the document outline. Because the tag is attached to the section itself rather than to a text selection, it stays in place when you edit the text inside it.

How it works

  1. Select a section in the document outline. The whole section is highlighted in the editor, so you can see exactly what will be tagged.
  2. Apply a tag from the taxonomy browser to the whole section in a single action, even when the section spans several pages.
  3. Add further tags to the same section if it needs more than one.

Looking ahead

We're working on continuing block tags across sections, so a disclosure that spans more than one section can be tagged in the same way.

Managing linked content in InDesign and InCopy

Once Vicosight content is placed in your layout, keeping it in step with the source matters as much as placing it. The update indicator in the Vicosight panel now refreshes live, so you see as soon as a newer version of a linked section is available, and you can fetch it when you're ready. Updates keep your existing styling wherever possible. You can unlink a section or segment when you want to keep the text as it is, and jump from the link button in the panel straight to the linked content in your document. If linked content no longer exists in Vicosight, the link is marked as broken so you can unlink it, and documents that contain Vicosight content can now be saved back to your project.

Linked sections on project and chapter pages

You can now see where Vicosight content is used without opening InDesign. On the project page, a link icon next to a section shows which chapters use it, and you can go straight to any of those chapters. On the chapter page, View Sections (Vicosight) lists the sections the chapter is linked to, and linked chapters show when a section they use has been updated.

Changelog

Tagging

New

  • Automatic number format detection for numeric tags, with project defaults for monetary format and TRR namespace.
  • Choose whether a numeric value is reported as positive or negative, with the concept's debit or credit balance shown in the inspector.
  • Preview the reported value of a numeric tag in the inspector.
  • Block tagging: tag an entire section from the document outline, with highlighting and support for multiple tags on one section.

Improvements

  • Fixed alignment issues in the inspector when viewing numeric tags.
